Fantastic Fall!

Fall has been good to us. Fall Break was especially good to us! We did all things fun including, but not limited to: covering our pillows in orange goodness, "Where the Wild Things Are," Springville pumpkin patch with the Whitmores (and 20 mile bike ride!), Wendy's frosties, dinner/games with friends, pancake breakfast, girl's day out, and a stroll through the leaves at beautiful Bridal Veil Falls.

Here are the falls...
ahhhh.... pedicures. Happy Birthday Shelly!
Nothing like Wendy's after a few hours on a bicycle.

Pumpkin Patch! Thanks Jaker's Jack-O-Lanterns.
Cute little Karen.
We love the Whitmores!
Oh Toddles.
Hooray for pumpkins!
Sunny?
I'm so proud of my pillows. Everyone needs a little orange this time of year.
And with that, we say a fond farewell to our Fall Break...

Just enjoying autumn and my technological prowess...

Happy autumn! Colors, sounds, smells, yummy things.... autumn is wonderful. We are enjoying the view of the mountains and all the orange that is appearing. In 2nd grade this week we talked all about the sounds, smells, sights, and tastes of autumn. I love little seven year old brains. I will be the first to say that children can wax very poetic, and often do when given the chance. It is very enjoyable to me. Some of my favorites this week were:

"Autumn leaves fall off the trees and move through the air like gliders"
"Autumn sounds crunchy and crispy"
"Leaves carpet the ground like fallen snow"
"Leaves are like a blanket on the ground"

Fun craft idea for those who like colors, words, and things gooey. This activity followed our "sounds, smells, sights, and tastes of autumn" discussions.

Corn Syrup Leaves

Materials:
  • card stock (draw or copy your chosen leaf design onto it)
  • corn syrup
  • food coloring (green, yellow, red)
  • wax paper
How To:
  • Cut our your leaf.
  • Place it on the wax paper
  • Pour about a quarter-half dollar size amount of corn syrup in the middle
  • Quickly bask in the glory of gooey and spread it all around your leaf
  • Before it dries place your desired drops of food coloring scattered around your leaf
  • I love to mix yellow with green, or yellow with red (I love orange!)
  • Swirl it around and make beautiful colors and designs
  • Let your leaf dry for about 24 hours
  • Lick your fingers and eureka! You have a shiny and beautiful autumn leaf! As well as spiked blood sugar levels. What more could you want?

In school we write one word on the leaf in marker that describes what autumn sounds like, looks like, smells like, or tastes like. Make sure you use a dark marker. Do the writing before the gooey fun.

ENJOY!

Now, onto my technological prowess. It's a big step for me and so I would like to share it. Yes, I made a class website. I know, I know. You're thinking Tod made my class website. That is simply not the case. I figured it out, and I conquered! There are many wonderful educational links to games if you would like to check them out. I am rather proud of myself and will leave out the part about my lengthy conversation with the URL people... I might have had some holes in my technological abilities, but I'm a problem solver so here it is!

Here's a Robbins' update with pictures:

Uncle Tod torturing, I mean playing with, William

Tod planned a date to the Freedom Foundations Concert and is relaxing after all that hard work! It was a lovely concert in the Tabernacle. Way to plan Tod!

Tod's birthday celebration was fun. He had a fantastic cake thanks to Dad Robbins. We forgot our camera on my birthday, so.... this is the cake update for both of us.

I hope Tod made a wonderful wish because he worked hard for those candles! Happy Birthday Tod!

One last update. We think we have harvested the last of our peppers. They are pretty and yummy. We think we became plant geneticists... or just planted different kinds too close together because they are a wonderful rainbow of colors and flavors now!

Happy October ladies and gentlemen!

Healthcare Reform Myths

Interesting stuff. I don't know enough yet to come down on either side, but I think this is very informative of some of the attitudes, ignorance, we see around us. It's hard for students, working class, like Pam and myself to get decent insurance. So I'm open ears to more alternatives.

Washington Was Windy Wonderful Wildly Enjoyable

Pamela and myself had quite the lovely time in Washington for our July 6-15 (for me), 19th (for Pamela). I now anxiously await her arrival from Portland on Thursday (what murder!). I have placed in this post a picture of my anxiety to the left of this paragraph.

Here are some reunion pictures as well:

Our First Anniversary! (and the tattoo that says "time share pitch wanted" on Tod's forehead)

Our summer started out with a bang!  Not only was I able to reclaim our house and spend two days in my pajamas without the excuse of being sick, but Saturday, June 6th marked a wonderful day in the Robbins' household.  We celebrated 365 days of marriage!  Our first anniversary was wonderful.  We started the day with coffee cake and eggs, Tod's favorite.  After that, we were surprised by Mom and Dad Robbins with a portable air conditioning unit! Hallelujah!  This August shall not be a month of dread.  We made a cameo at the Farmer's Market and headed to BYU for a very well done play of "The Giver."  For dinner we headed to exotic Orem.  My first experience at Thai Chili Gardens was delightful.  My recommendation is the pineapple curry with sticky rice.  Delicious.  Our dear friends Peter and Chrizelle gave us the hook-up and we were able to stay at the Westgate Resort in Park City for the night.  They even sent us on our way with a cooler full of delectable treats and breakfast foods for the morning.  There was slight communication lapse between us and the resort, however.  Apparently there was also a "promotional deal" going on.  We were placed in that category.  The next morning as we attempted to check out they would not take our key until we had "the tour."  This was a silly and ironic moment for us since Tod has now memorized the number of another time share company that calls him at least two times a day.  Our favorite part is that this company already gave us their "short presentation", failed to follow through with a free weekend trip, and told us it was the last chance in this universe for us to get such a deal.  Apparently, we have been so fortunate to get a 2nd chance!  Oh please, how many times do we have to tell them that we can't even afford a car right now?  Let alone a time share... but hey, the best deal in life is to "own your vacations" right?  Ha.

Anyhow, we are so grateful for such fabulous family and friends.  Thank you to all!  It was a day that will always be full of fond memories.

Mysterious $50

Tonight, after returning home from Jarom's and Stephanie's wedding reception, we found an envelope with the word "thanks" written on the front. Inside the envelope was a $50 bill. No note. Nothing else, and we are totally clueless as to where it came from. A blessing? Accidental drug money drop? Wrong address?
Needless to say, we will accept this fortuitous moment humbly and say to whoever it was: thank you.

Tod's new blog: Water, Blood, & Oil

I've started a new blog titled: Water, Blood, & Oil on WordPress. The blog will be for my spiritual experiences and other meanderings, also my creations that feel like they need another place of presentation. This new blog will be more focused and maybe even reverent (hmm...). Anyhow, hope those who are interested in spiritual discussions and meditations will give it a shot.

Love you all,

Tod
